Why was ILIMA Trust created?
Ilima was created by Old Mutual as a vehicle to advance nation building and sustainable economic growth in South Africa. In essence, the work of Ilima serves to advance this objective by assisting government departments and small businesses through skills transfer and management coaching.

Who manages ILIMA?
ILIMA is managed by a managing associate who reports to a Board of Trustees. The Board comprises representatives from Old Mutual, the group’s BEE partners and external representatives. The Board meets quarterly to review the Trust’s progress and to ensure adherence to its objectives.

Who works for ILIMA?
The ILIMA team comprises former senior and executive managers from Old Mutual who have chosen early retirement in order to pursue a greater cause by ploughing back their knowledge, experience and skills to willing individuals and organisations.

What type of work and services do you offer?
The primary focus of our work is to build the capacity of leaders employed in the national, provincial and local spheres of government, for purposes of capacity building in those spheres of government. We further provide training, support or assistance to community-based projects relating to self-help, empowerment, capacity building, skills development or anti-poverty, whilst also providing training, support or assistance to emerging micro enterprises to improve the capacity of their owners to start and manage their businesses.

Amongst others, Ilima provides these services through:

  • Strategy development and implementation
  • Leadership and human resource development
  • Facilitation of appropriate business solutions
  • Local economic development guidance
  • Project conceptualisation and initiation
  • Mentoring and coaching

What successes have you achieved?
ILIMA has been well received and the take up rate of our offering has been overwhelming. To date we have undertaken over 100 assignments across all levels of government and small businesses, and more than half of these have already been satisfactorily completed. Please read more about our Projects

Who benefits from the work that you do?
Our work benefits the public sector through our focus on helping to improve leaders’ capacity to improve government service delivery to communities. We also assist small businesses by developing their management and business skills. We provide a place of significance for retired executives who believe they can make a difference by enabling people.

What can I expect to pay for your services?
Because our operations are significantly subsidised, you can expect to be charged substantially less than the fees charged for similar services by conventional service providers.

Are you happy to assist other organisations with their social investment initiatives?
Yes, we are. We have a proven methodology and vehicle that we are happy to share with any organisation seeking to maximise their social investment spend. Contact us.

Can I join the ILIMA team?
If you are a seasoned executive with substantial management/business experience and subscribe to our cause and way of operating, you are welcome to Contact us.
