- Developing Uhambo Creations
The challenge: guide the partners in applying sound business principles and marketing, human resource, administration and accounting disciplines
Uhambo which is exploring international markets as part of its growth plans, makes linen products for hotels and lodges using embroidery by black women from different cultural groups. The partners identify embroiderers in rural areas, provide accommodation and training in advanced work in Johannesburg, buy products from them following their return to their homes, and incorporate these in their bulk sales to hotels and lodges.
ILIMA assisted Uhambo with
– the formulation of its business plan and training in business principles
– a proposal for a viable share scheme for the embroiderers to become partners of Uhambo Creations.
Uhambo successfully applied for Masisizane funding and is implementing regular training of women.

Eden District Municipality (G. Louw)
Koukamma Local Municaplity is situated in the Eastern Cape about 100 km west of Port Elizabeth and falls in the Cacadu District Municaplity region. The municipality delivers services to the nearby towns of Joubertina, Storms River, Coldstream and other smaller villages in the area
Poor service delivery resulted in the municipality being put under administration. Mr. Dumisani Mngadi, Chief Director - DCoG, approached Ilima Trust for assistance. An investigation resulted in recommendations that included the development of a stakeholder management plan, vision and goal alignment, review of the oranizational structure, assistance with the development of a revenue enhancement project as well as with the development of a comprehensive human resource plan
